We are The Community Writing Center! A brand new organization (applying for non-profit status) founded by members of the SLCC Community Writing Center: staff, volunteers, and writers who want to keep community writing alive in Salt Lake.
We are excited to get writing! Our plans include writing groups and workshops, as well as writing resources. If you would like to receive updates as we get things off the ground, fill out the contact form below.

Thank you for your patience and support as we embark on this project. The outpouring of love we’ve received upon news of the SLCC CWC’s closure has been monumental. This new organization, The Community Writing Center, would not have been a possibility if it weren’t for the community. The community response showed us the continued need for local programs that will support and connect local writers and community members. Everyone who has ever written with, volunteered for, worked for, or touched the CWC in some way made it what is was. We, as a community, as writers, as people who dream for the future, are The Community Writing Center. You are The Community Writing Center.

No, The Community Writing Center is a new, independent organization that is not funded by or affiliated with Salt Lake Community College.
No, The Community Writing Center doesn’t yet have an in-person location. We will not be able to stay at the location on the library plaza. Stay tuned for updates on in-person writing groups and programming!
The Community Writing Center plans to support a number of free, accessible writing groups at various locations in SLC and neighboring cities. We are pursuing partnerships with other local groups and small businesses to continue offering writing workshops on a variety of topics, and when we are funded, we hope to continue the SLCC Community Writing Center tradition of publishing the writing of local authors in community anthologies.
The Salt Lake County Library will continue some of our Young Writers programs and will run writing workshops for SLC youth at various branch locations!
The Community Writing Center will be funded by generous donations from community members like you! We are also applying for a number of grants to support our programming.

The Community Writing Center will begin as an entirely volunteer-run organization. We need volunteers to help in a number of capacities and at all stages as we build and grow.
